Who will judge your site?
For now, I, Jerry Hartzler, will be the sole evaluator for the Smokin' Awards. I
have over three decades of computer experience on many different platforms including
Commodores, Apples, Amigas, Macs and PCs. My expertise is in multimedia design, and I
have done multimedia presentations and electronic brochure work for a host of companies,
including: ATT, Sharp, Mita, Motorola, Lucent, HP and Panasonic, to name a few. My
passion is railroad history, specifically on the Kishacoquillas Valley Railroad. I have
created a website on the KVRR titled The
Ol' Hook & Eye, and am the author of a book under the same name. The Smokin
Award AP has acheived the highest rating in two of the best known indices in
the awards community, Award Sites!
(5.0 Elite) and WebsAwards
(Rating 5). I am also an evaluator for several other highly ranked Award Sites shown below.
Who gives me the right to judge your site?
You do - when you apply for my award. I'm sorry to say that I'm not
perfect; I have opinions and biases like everyone else. Although I have developed a
point system to help me evaluate sites, personal opinion cannot be eliminated.
My evaluation results on some sites will no doubt conflict with those of the webmaster's.
The point is, don't be too disappointed if you do not win the Smokin'
Award. My own website, has been declined awards and has received from merit to
platinum awards, so as you can see, everyone has a different viewpoint on what a
perfect website should be.
If you fail to earn an award, or get a lower award than expected, you should reread the
criteria to discover your site's weaknesses. You also have the option of receiving
a free copy of your evaluation with the Smokin' Award, to help you
in your quest for a higher award and an overall better site. After two months you are
welcome to resubmit your site.
What else do I do in the awards community?
I am proud to be an evaluator for ONZCDATM and
the Best of Nem5, both rated as Elite by
Award Sites!. I am
also an evaluator for WebsAwards, a TEAM member and have written a couple
of articles for the Website Awards "Ask the Experts" column - one of which was
awarded Editor's Choice.
