Oct. 28, 2002 The general criteria has changed whereby a site must now have ten pages of content to qualify.

History has been added to AwardStat along with version numbers.

Disqualifiers statement added to the "When to resubmit a site" section on the Application page.
Oct. 22, 2002 A custom 404 Error page was added to the site.

Oct. 14, 2002 To make the Smokin' Award appear as a stand-alone AP, all links to the Hook & Eye will open that site in a new browser window.

If all of the award number input values were 0 in the AwardStat section, the calculation output primitive values. This has been corrected.
Oct. 13, 2002 The Smokin' Award has been upgraded to a 4.5 rating from Award Sites! The old level banner has been replaced with a new one on the Intro page.
Oct. 4, 2002 Congratulations to the Enfield Town Model Railway Club for winning a Bronze award!
Oct. 3, 2002 Webmaster photo added to Judge page.

The awards on the Winners page will now only animate when you mouse over them.

Minor spacing problems resolved on the Intro page.

Sept. 30, 2002 A "Date Changed" column was added to the table on the Criteria page.

Pages made friendlier for Opera and the browser statement was revised on the Intro page.

If JavaScript is not enabled, AwardStat will no longer show on the Intro menu.

2.0 Award Sites! rating removed from the "Great Site" Award by webmaster's request.
Sept. 26, 2002 The banners were raised yet again on the Intro page. A new WebsAwards banner and a browser compatibility statement were also added.

"Thou shalt" was enlarged and changed color on the Criteria page.

Most of the copy on the site is now aligned justified.

I recently found the deceased Railfan Freak Award. It is now added to the Discontinued page. Also copy changes were made to the Deutscher Eisenbahn Channel Awards on this page as well.
Sept. 25, 2002 The two award rating service banners were raised higher to the top of the Intro page (To stay compliant with Award Sites! guidelines).
Sept. 24, 2002 Congratulations to the Stafford Railway Circle for winning a Bronze award!
Sept. 14, 2002 The Super Loco Award site is offline and the award has been moved to the Discontinued page. OneWorld Awardvergabe has moved back to the No Response page, but no award has been issued since 2000.
Sept. 8, 2002 The two award rating service banners were raised near the top of the Intro page. The "Site Revised" link was also changed to a smaller font size.
Sept. 6, 2002 All text throughout site is now a lighter color for easier reading.

Minor copy changes and criteria header links added to the Criteria page.

Color for active links has changed from white to a pale yellow.

A big thank you to Awardsville for reviewing my site.

I was not getting a lot of hits from the webrings so they have been removed. This also has the added benefit of cutting down the load time of the Intro page.

The old "Page Top" and "Page Bottom" graphics looked like scroll buttons and have been replaced with new ones.

Next and previous page links have been added to the Criteria section.

The point tallies at the beginning of the definitions on the Criteria page and the Definitions page were confusing to some and have been removed or moved to a separate column.

Minor text changes have been made throughout the site.
Aug. 13, 2002 The "Great Site" Award has a 2.0 rating with Award Sites!.

So as not to conflict with the new window that may be open on the Ol' Hook & Eye the AwardStat new window was renamed.
Aug. 11, 2002 Thanks to Debbie of Mesweet's Awards (rated 5.0 with AS!) for the suggestions.

The new window that opens when making an AwardStat table is color coordinated to match the rest of the site. A "Close Window" button has also been added.

Aug. 9, 2002 Reworded error messages on the Apply page.
Aug. 8, 2002 The British are coming! I have had a deluge of UK sites lately. Some fine examples are the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society, a Silver winner, and London and North Western Railway Society, a Bronze winner.

I am honored to be a member of APEX, the Association for Positive Ethical eXchange. A badge has been added to the Ethics page.

A Link page was added to the Railroad Award Sites section for those of you wishing to link to this resource.

Copyright and Privacy Policy pages added to site. Links to these two new pages and to Revisions and the Webmaster's email address were added to every page.

"Page Top" and "Page Bottom" links added to every page.

Answering the age question wrong on the Apply page will bring up an error page as the railroad-related question does. Return links to Apply were added to all application error pages.

I have received several applications that were not railroad-related. Apparently, some award seekers don't even bother to read the basic criteria! The question "Is your website railroad-related?" has been added to the form on the Apply page.

June 21, 2002 The Smokin' Award is open for business again! Criteria has been thoroughly gone over and redone, so please review the changes made in the Criteria and Descriptions pages.

Due to closing, the Railroad Web Ring has been removed from the Intro page.
June 13, 2002 The changes to the criteria are going slower than expected. But I hope to accept applications the middle of this month.

I have graduated my training with ONZCDA and am now a qualified evaluator for this fine awards site. A certification badge has been added to the Judge page.

May 23, 2002 The Smokin' Award is back from vacation and working on "Remodeling" the site.

New header graphics added to the Criteria, Winners and AwardStat pages.

Changed bottom menu spacing on all bronze and silver winner pages to match the spacing on main Winners page.

Selection rectangle removed from AwardStat option in the left menu.

Standardized coding by using CSS to color award bullets on the Criteria page.

Fixed a few dead links.

AwardStat is now officially open. This addition is reflected in the menus throughout the site.

Fixed horizontal scroll bars from appearing in the menu frame when the browser window is shortened.
May 16, 2002 The Smokin' Award is on vacation until the beginning of June. During this time, I hope to revamp all of the criteria.
May 8, 2002 All references to StatCode have been changed to AwardStat.
May 7, 2002 Welcome www.eisenbahnwallpaper.de, a new award that you can apply for!

The Smokin' Award is rated 10 with WebsAwards! A banner is now displayed on the Intro page.

Some people were having problems with the Application Form and setting the "Frames" button on the Intro page. This was caused by the many aliases that are connected to the Smokin' Award site. A JavaScript routine will now force the address to read the URL http://smokin.kvrr.net.

Apr. 19, 2002 The Smokin' Award has been successfully moved to a new server. There were some CGI and mail problems but everything seems to be working now.
Apr. 18, 2002 The Smokin' Award has been upgraded to a 4.0 rating from Award Sites! Old level banners have been replaced with new ones on the Intro and Judge pages.

Thanks to Debbie of Meesweet's Award, an Award Master with the Absolut Project, for choosing the Smokin' Award as one of her 10 favorite award sites! For this, a Master Choice badge has been added to the Intro page. Statement copy has been reworded on this page also.

I am a contributor to Ask the Experts with Website Awards. A badge for this has been added to the Judge page.

A new Ethics page was added in the Criteria section. Menus throughout the section were changed to reflect this.

The Trademark (TM) symbol was added to StatCode.

">" was replaced with " | " on all menus.

The Privacy Policy statement has changed a little and the question "May I post your name?" has been added to the form on the Apply page.
Apr. 15, 2002 An additional value has been added to the StatCode. Now you have the option of having different titles for your statistic tables. Some minor copy changes have also been made.

The address kvrr.rrdepot.com is now officially dead. All references to this address have been changed to www.kvrr.net.

A StatCode page was created for webmasters to copy and use code for a statistics table on their own award sites.

Mar. 30, 2002 I will no longer accept sites that are mainly links to other websites. The Smokin' Award is looking for train-related websites with content, and I find it increasingly difficult to fairly judge "link only" sites. This new minimum criteria point has been added to the Criteria page and a notice that "Standard criteria has changed" has been added to the Apply for Award page.
Mar. 18, 2002 Congratulations to Confederate Railroads for winning a Bronze.

Thanks to Charles Wilber for finding the email address to the Lionel representative who can grant trademark permissions. It has been added to the © & ® page.

The "Last Word" page has been renamed to "Judge." This change is reflected in the menus throughout the Criteria section.

Feb. 19, 2002 The silver award winners are now broken up into years.

Internet Explorer selection rectangles will no longer appear in the side menu or on any of the award links.

Cleaned up some site links:
  • Chris Denbow's Train Gif Station has closed, and all links to his site have been deleted.

  • Train Exchange Awards appears to be offline and has been moved to the Discontinued page.

  • Railmaster's Best Site Award has closed and moved to the Discontinued page.

Jan. 21, 2002 Happy Birthday!
The Smokin' Award is now one year old! Out of the 76 nominations received, 29 sites were honored with an award. I wish to thank all of you, winners and non-winners alike, for the opportunity of reviewing your sites. I hope that the experience was as educational for you as it was for me.

The Normanton & Pontefract R.M.S. site has won a Bronze award.

The Deutscher Eisenbahn Channel Awards site is currently closed and has been placed on the Discontinued page.

The OneWorld Awardvergabe site appears dead and has been placed on the Discontinued page.
Jan. 16, 2002 Congratulations to the Akron Barberton Belt Railroad, for winning a Bronze.

A new minimum criteria point has been added to the Criteria page. A site will be disqualified if there are any "Under Construction" signs or blank pages.

The bronze award winners are broken up into years, and a new menu has been placed at the end of all the Winners pages.

The "New Domain" banner has been removed from the top of the Index page.
Jan. 9, 2002 Happy New Year!

Marc Humphreys Minitrains Award of Site Excellence has been updated.

The Modellbahner Award site is dead and has been placed on the Discontinued page.

To cut back on the length of this, the Revisions page, all of the site changes made in 2001 have been added to a new page (See menu below).
