Nov. 28, 2004 The Smokin' Award has reopened.

Criteria Points have been completely revised and Hints added throughout.

The Self-Test page has changed to reflect changes in the criteria points.

Fair Use Policy clause added to the Copyright and Trademark Issues page.

I found the on2world Award and added it to the Discontinued page in the Railroad Award Sites section.

Oct. 31, 2004 The site is temporarily closed while the awardmaster revamps the criteria.
Oct. 29, 2004 New code used for opening windows. No matter what browser or over-riding controls there are, the specified inner document dimensions should remain the same.
Oct. 13, 2004 IAMS has closed and the banner removed from the Home page.

WECP has also closed and the banner removed from the Judge page. IAMS has been taken over by TEAM and the new banner is now on this page.

Aug. 19, 2004 The use of the word "Accessibility" in the Criteria section was misleading to some, and has been replaced with "Usability."

July 21, 2004 Congratulations to Garden State Model Railway Club, Inc. for winning a Bronze award!

The age limit Criteria to apply for an award has changed from 16 to 13 years of age or higher.

The statement on the Apply page titled, "When will you know if you have won or not?" has changed. An applicant will not be contacted if he/she is under 13 years of age or if the website submitted is not railroad-related.

July 4, 2004 All page navigation buttons have been replaced with lantern graphics

Page navigation buttons added to Accolades page.

Lantern bullet graphics on Criteria page replaced with new warning signal graphics.

June 27, 2004 Congratulations to East Somerset Railway for winning a Bronze award!
June 20, 2004 Version History on the AwardStat page now opens in a new window. This was done to make room for an AwardStat banner display. A new WebsAwards Resource badge was also posted.

New coding samples were added to the Railroad Award Sites Link page that is XHTML compliant. Terms of Use has also been clarified to allow users a choice to add a target attribute to the link tag or not.
June 17, 2004 Congratulations to Riverside Yard! The first Silver winner this year.
June 7, 2004 External judges for the newly formed WebsAwards has honored the Smokin' Award AP with its top level 5 rating. The new WebsAwards badge was added to the Home page.

An old WebsAwards banner and link was removed from the AwardStat page.

The table border was removed from the Copyright page.
June 4, 2004 The site overview was completely rewritten and top and bottom navigation was added to the Home page.

Model Trains International Reader's Pick has been moved from Active to No Response status and City Station Awards criteria has changed in the Railroad Award Sites section.
June 1, 2004 I have agreed to be an evaluator for the new WebsAwards. A badge has been placed on the Judge page.

Trademark [TM] added to AwardStat on all main menus.

"Description" and "Example" button graphics were redone on the Criteria page.

May 30, 2004 Bygone Monon Cyberspace Awards has been moved from Active to No Response status in the Railroad Award Sites section.
May 28, 2004 A new 2.60 version of AwardStat has been released. Also, if you return to make an AwardStat table from the results page, the pop-up window will now refresh properly. The first "Highlight All" button on the AwardStat results page is now working.
May 27, 2004 The AwardStat section has been updated. Instead of only 9 there are now 15 spaces in the form to input award listings. There is now an option to save or print the entries input into the form.

The Smokin' Award AP is now rated as being child-safe with the Internet Content Rating Association. A small ICRA link graphic has been added to the bottom of the Home page.
May 25, 2004 Congratulations to LocoScene for winning a Bronze award!

WebsAwards has retired and is going through an entire rebuild under new management. The banner is now unlinked and labeled as being retired on the Home page. Also Absolut Project has retired and the banner removed. Congratulations banner for reaching AS! 5.0 by the Rose Award has been removed as well.

A new 2.05 version of AwardStat has been released.

All award stat variables used throughout the Winners section are in a seperate JavaScript file making it easy to update.
May 24, 2004 Congratulations to Wilmington & Western Railroad for winning a Bronze award!
May 21, 2004 All of the Smokin' Award graphics were redone so that the winning site name is clearer. Also, the year the award was issued is now shown on the graphic. This work has also produced a smaller graphic - an animated award is now only 7kb and a non-animated one is 6kb. See the Winners section to view the new award images.
May 12, 2004 A new page of testimonials was created called Accolades. It is linked from the Sitemap, Introduction and the Home page.

The Introduction was shortened and a replay link was added to the end of the animation.

Some visitors were having problems using the form on the Apply page. Hopefully this has been resolved and a new 'Send as Email' button was added as an extra precaution.

Minitrains Train Site Award has been moved from Active to No Response status in the Railroad Award Sites section.

Feb. 24, 2004 A new 2.03 version of AwardStat has been released.
Feb. 12, 2004 The site has been tested and will now work in browsers with frames disabled.
Feb. 8, 2004 The Transit Toronto Link of the Month is currently inactive and moved to the Discontinued Award Programs page.
Feb. 7, 2004 The Main button on all the menus has been renamed to Home.

After some careful thought I concluded that people want to access information immediately rather than watching an Introduction. The first page is now the Home page with a link to play the Introduction.

A favicon.ico (favicon image) was added to the server. This icon image is used when you bookmark a page on the Smokin' Award.

Site is more user friendly for browsers not running JavaScript. If JavaScript is not enabled the links for the Self-Test page are not shown in the Criteria section and the Self-Test page displays a warning.

All of the Stat pages after 2002 will display a warning if JavaScript is not enabled.
Feb. 5, 2004 Copy for the Web Gem Award on the Active Award Programs page was revised. Also, the link for Railway Resource Awards was updated.

Jan. 30, 2004 The criteria for Consistency on the Interface page has been clarified: "If an external link opens a new window then all external links should do so (Unless the service you link to does not permit this - Example: eXTReMe Tracking)."
Jan. 27, 2004 The new Bronze Winners page will now default to 2004 instead of 2003 when its URL is entered in a Browser (Thanks Matt).
Jan. 23, 2004 Congratulations to Nashua City Station for winning a Bronze award!
Jan. 14, 2004 2004 award links were added throughout the Winners section in anticipation of Bronze and Silver winners this year (will remain unlinked until awards are issued).

The 2004 Stats page now displays the correct year. All the pages within the Stats section links to the 2004 Stats page.

I was proud to have been asked to be an evaluator for the 2003 Best of Nem5 Awards. The Nem5 badge was added to the Judge page.

To prepare for 2003, a new Revision and Stats page were added and the Sitemap updated.

When the Index page tests to see if a Flash player is installed to run the introduction, it will no longer redirect to a new page but will run immediately from the Index page.

The Flash detection code used on the Index page is moock.fpi. The Copyright page was changed to reflect this.
