All Aboard Web Award
|

The All Aboard Web Award started in 2005, when its sponsor site, All Aboard N Scale Trains,
came online. The only criteria is that the website should somehow be train related. The webmaster put it
best when he said, "This is just something that gives people incentive to make their sites look fabulous
and I enjoy giving them out." To apply, go to the "Train Whistles" page and click the award to send an
email application. Winners are not listed onsite.
|
American Railroads Folklore Award
|

The American Railroad Folklore Award is for any web page(s) which pertains to factual or
fictional American railroad stories and is sponsored by the webmaster's own folklore page entitled:
Folklore Tribute to Kate Shelley. Also offered is the
Midnight Express Award for Outstanding Website and the Water Tower Award for an
Excellent Website for any family-safe website. There is even an Outstanding Poet & Historian
Award for subject matter related to poetry or history. All websites submitted must be free
of pornography, violence or hate material. The award can be resized and winners will be listed
onsite. The AP started sometime in 2003-2004.

CSB Award
|

This three-tiered general awards program is sponsored by Ciosbahn, a website on a Swiss
virtual railway in N scale. The disqualifiers and criteria looks precise. Points are
broken up into three sections - 40 points for content, 36 for design and 23 for
navigation. At least 70 points are required to win a bronze, 81 for silver and
91 for gold. A separate award for a Great Railway Photo Collection may also be
won - the only criteria being that the site is family safe. CSB is topped off with
a Site of the Year award going out to one of the Gold winners per year. The AP
began in July of 2005 and is rated 3.5 by

Dave's Tracks of Excellence Award
|

Dave's Railway Photo Album sponsors this general site award. To win you simply
email the webmaster with your site's URL. As long as your site is family-safe and if
Dave feels it's deserving, he will send you his award and will list your site on his
awards page. The AP opened in December of 2004.

www.eisenbahnwallpaper.de Award
|

This German award is basically the same as the
Deutscher Eisenbahn Channel Award,
only the name has changed (For those who don't know German, click on "Awardvergabe" from
the site's menu list). There are three award levels: gold, silver and bronze. This
program will award any topic, but it specializes in German and international Railway
sites. To be considered for this award you must sign the guest book (Gästebuch), and
join one of the railmaster's railway-related webrings. You can apply by sending the URL of
your site to the webmaster by email.

"Great Site" Award
|

The "Great Site" Award is one of two offered to railway related sites by the Australian Model
Railway Association. The criteria is exact and looks to be quite challenging. Site Construction
makes up 20% of the score; followed by navigation at 20%, design at 30% and Content making up the
remaining 30%. A site receiving 80 points or more is honored with an award and will be listed on the
winners' page. As an extra bonus, sites that obtain at least 91 points, have the chance of winning the
coveted "You've stuck Gold" Award, offered to only one site a month.
|
Green Light Award
|

The railroad-related Green Light Award has changed from a single award to this well
designed four-tiered program. The criteria is broken up with Content and Design being
30 points each and Construction and Navigation 20 points each, making a total of 100
points. An additional six "Green Light Special" points can also be achieved. At least
70 points will capture a merit award, 80 for bronze, 88 for Silver and 96 for gold.
Separate winner pages lists all winners. This AP opened in July of 2005 and became
tiered at the beginning of 2006. It is rated 3.0 by

Hermann's Railroad Award
|

This award is offered by a site on German steam railways. Hermann is the name
of the webmaster, and his site is in German, but he has thankfully translated it to English.
His site is also home for the Steam Locomotives SiteRing. The criteria list to
qualify follows; no adult or illegal material, railroad-related, no links-only sites and
it must be interesting enough for return visits. He photographed the beautiful locomotive
shot on the award at the main station of Regensburg. A nice thing is that Hermann will
allow you to scale the award if you're tight on space.

MainLines East Top Site Award
|

Ed St.George has a passion for Eastern American railroads, as his site suggests.
While surfing the web, when he comes across a site he likes, he will leave his
mark of admiration in the form of an award. His site lists the Top Sites
that he has awarded. There are currently no criteria of any kind listed on his site
but as Ed puts it: "the exceptional site gets the award." You can point his way to
your site either by email or an entry in his guest book. The picture on the award was
taken at The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority at the Readville Facility, ME.
Ed wrote: "...two EMD/AMF Techno-Transport GP40MC locomotives and their trains having
completed their prime-time runs snooze in the hot mid-day."

Nutsplitter's Great Site Award
|

This general website award is sponsored by Canada My Home Sweet Home website whose webmaster
was a "nutsplitter" - a railroad mechanic who could split a nut using a chisel without
damaging the bolt threads. The link to the site's award page (Page-13) is found near
the bottom of the home page and displays the awards this site has won as well as this simple
awards program. The award, featuring the Southern Pacific Daylight No.4449 in Los
Angeles, can be won as long as the applicant website is family friendly. Winners can
choose the award in one of two sizes (shown is the small version!) but have the option
of scaling down the award further if desired. There is no winners list. This AP began
in January of 1999.
|
Railroad Artists Award
|

There are several things that sets Roger Gilbert's award apart from the rest. First, since
Roger is an artist, the award emphasizes artistic and creative content, which makes up 25%
of the total score. Second, a site may be selected for an award without even applying if
it meets the criteria. If you apply and your site does not initially win, Roger will
graciously send you a report on areas that he thinks your site is weak in. A list of
winners is displayed. This AP opened in 2001.
|
Railway Resource Awards
|

Steve's Railway Pages offers resource awards for sites that contain a lot of
useful information on a specific topic. There are three different awards for three
different topics; Model Railways (Shown), UK Railways and Australian Railways. There
is no particular criteria for these awards other than convincing the webmaster that
a site is a useful resource and fits one of the three mentioned categories. This AP
began in January of 2003 and displays a list of winners with descriptions.
|
WSR Web Site Award
|

Out with the old and in with the new! The Waldovia State Railways award started
out as five-tiered in June of 2005, but in 2006 the criteria has been simplified and
the website now offers a new single award. The old award was offered only to
model-railway sites but now any railway-related site is elegible. Awards will be given
to websites that are family-friendly and pleasing to the eye. If your site wins, it
will be listed with a description on the award's recipient page.
|
Web Gem Award
|

The Web Gem Award is certainly the most widely known railroad award on the net. Over
140 sites have been honored with the Web Gem Award. It is sponsored by TrainNet.org,
which also operates the TrainNet Forum as well as the International Railway Links site
with a listing of over 6,000 sites. To win an award, a site will be graded on a scale from 0 to 10
by at least three members of the TrainNet Forum Staff and must achieve an average score of
seven. A site must be attractive, fast loading, grammatically correct and updated regularly to be
considered. Non-winners are notified and will receive judge's
comments. Hint: a link to the International Railway Links site will help your chances.
|
Webmaster's Choice Award
|

The National Model Railroad Association hosts this award. You can email the webmaster,
but most of the awards are given to sites that the NMRA staff finds while surfing the web, or
to new impressive sites that are added to the NMRA directory. One site per month is selected
for the award. The NMRA looks for model railroad sites being well laid out, reasonably
fast loading and with good content. Winning sites are listed with a complimentary write up.
