Amrail's HEAVY HAULER Web Site Award
|

Although Amrail's Heavy Hauler Award looked as if it was strictly for
railroad-related sites, any site with meaningful, interesting content
could apply. The award was several years old when I spoke with the awardmaster in
2000. The last award was handed out in 1999 and the site closed in 2001.

Bygone Monon Cyberspace Awards
|

Bygone Places Along "The Hoosier Line" had several awards to offer. One was done
up in the colors of the Monon Railroad freight service and another in the former red and
gray passenger colors. Both awards held the same criteria - for websites that were
"entertaining, interesting and just plain fun." Winners had a choice on which award to
display. A "Site of the Month Award" was also offered. The AP began in December of 2002,
and went offline in the Spring of 2004.

City Station Awards
|

Nashua City Station was the home of a nicely done four-tiered awards program.
An applicant's website was graded using a point system and leaned heavily towards
site design. An applicant could either win a Gold, Silver, Bronze or
the Great Site award, depending on the total number of points acquired. All
winners are still listed. The City Station Award shown, featured a Concord
Railroad (predecessor of the Boston & Maine) locomotive sitting in front of the
Nashua roundhouse. This AP began in July of 2003 and was discontinued in August of
2005.

Crossbuck Awards
|

This program had a lot of potential. The awards were nicely done, and apparently very hard to win.
Three awards were offered, Platinum, Gold and Award of Excellence.
If I recall, there were five Award of Excellence winners listed, three Gold winners and no platinum
winners.

Concrete and Steel Award
|

This general award program was run by the webmaster who created
Pictures of the Subway of Montreal.
The purpose of the award was to "recognize outstanding websites dedicated to art
and creation" that is, "in soul or flesh, concrete and/or steel related."
Rail-related websites were certainly eligible as long as the content was somehow
artistic. The criteria seemed quite liberal, but make no mistake - this was not a
give-away award. The AP began in September of 2005 and ended in July of 2007. It was rated
3.0 by Award Sites!
|
Cool Subway Site
|

This award by www.subways.net appears to have opened in 1999 and was only active for about
a month. It honored only subway or traction-related websites that were unique, well laid
out, easy to navigate and the webmaster "just plain liked." Only two winners are listed
on the site.
|
Cybertrains.com Award
|

Back in 1998, when cybertrains.org was named cybertrains.com, this site offered
an award for railroad-related sites. The award is thought to have lasted for 8
months and honored about the same number of sites. The reason for its demise was that
there were too many submissions and not enough time to handle it correctly. Stay
tuned, Cybertrains is considering of possibly offering the award
again.

Cyberville & Hypertext Railroad Site Award
|

Wayne Cook hosted this popular award on his site The Cyberville & Hypertext R.R.
I remember visiting this site in 2000, but soon after it was no longer online. The award was a large
personalized animated GIF and a heavyweight champion weighing in at around 46k depending
upon the site awarded.

|
Golden Rail Award
|

This was Chris Denbow's, of the now closed Train Gif Station, first award program. It opened in
October of 2000 and was replaced by the Highball Award (below) in 2001.
The criteria was very extensive for this award and had a 3.0 rating with
Award Sites!
The award changed a couple of times over its lifespan. It was originally a
single award program that changed into a three-tier - bronze, silver and gold.

Heartland Ohio-Rocket Railroad #1 Train Site Award
|

The Heartland System is a site featuring two model railroads; the fictional Heartland Ohio, built
by Dave Newell, and the Heartland Rocket - a subsidiary of the Heartland Ohio - built by Kathleen
Newell. The two once offered the Heartland Ohio-Rocket Railroad #1 Train Site Award to sites about trains
or model railroads. This site was last updated in the year 2000. The award form is no longer working, and I
have not heard back from the webmaster.
|
Highball Award
|

Due to losing his five judges and work constraints, Chris Denbow had to discontinue the Highball Award.
As he puts it, "With every site I judged, I got 2 more submissions, so it was 1 step forward, 2 steps back."
A sentiment that many award site owners feel at times. This was Chris' second award program,
replacing the Golden Rail Award above.
The Highball Award came in three flavors; Gold, Silver and Bronze. As with his Golden Rail Award, it
retained the unique feature in that the winning site received a customized locomotive gif of the
webmaster's favorite railroad. This award had a 3.5 rating with Award Sites!
The site closed in October of 2001 after being open for only four months.
|
Hobo's Choice Award
|

A site named Riding the Rails sponsored this award.
It was given to sites that the webmaster felt, celebrated the spirit of adventure.
I have contacted the webmaster, who said, "The Hobo's Choice has
taken the train to parts unknown."
|
LittleFoot Trains Website Award
|

While surfing the web, I came across this little known award. What caught my eye
was the unique name and graphic. Ah, the hazards of owning pets and operating model trains! Some
renditions of this award were animated gifs, showing the recipient's name on another frame. The site
seems neglected and during my last visit in the Spring of 2001, noticed that the award link was
missing.
