Markus' kleiner Lokschuppen Award
|

A German site called Markus' kleiner Lokschuppen issued this award. Markus
created a beautiful site and offered 5 different awards: Bronze, Silver,
Gold, Special and Premium. You could apply for all except the Premium, which was
given by Markus to any web page "which fall me with the surfen in the eye" (Online
language translation). The criteria is well laid out with points given to railway
related sites with, good layout, content, load time, originality, navigation and
interactivity/animation. Awards were issued during 2000 and 2001. It appeared that
the award was for German only sites.

Minitrains Train Site Award
|

This award was offered by the UK website - Miniature & Narrow
Gauge Railways. Sites on miniature, narrow-gauge or model railways were welcome
to apply, although the webmaster prefered those that concentrated on British content.
A list of winners, with a rating from one to five stars, is still maintained on the site.
Each year the award graphic - usually of a miniature steam-powered locomotive - was
different. The last year an award was issued was 2003.

Model Trains International Reader's Pick
|

Although this was not an award per se, it was a form of recognition bestowed on sites for
being recommended by Model Trains International, a bi-monthly magazine published in the UK.
If you were interested in applying for this "award," you would send an email to the web editor
asking that your site be mentioned. The site was then reviewed, and if worthy, would be listed
on the Links page of the Model Trains International website. The Reader's Pick
program began in 2001. The last response I've had with this site was in 2003.

Modellbahner Award
|

This was a rather nice looking German award offered in Bronze, Silver and Gold. However,
the death of free webspace on xoom.com in 2001 spelled the end for the site that was hosting it.
|
Odonata Award for Excellent Rail Pages
|

This was one of the nicest looking railroad awards around. Its home was at Dragonfly
Landing, a site operated by the late Jackie Atkinson. Jackie offered nine Odanata Awards in
just as many categories. As for the engine on this award, Jackie wrote, "The loco on the
award is Abitibi #30 and I took that photo, along with a few others, several years ago, at
Pine Falls, Manitoba. If my memory serves me correctly, this was the last steam engine to
run on a regular basis in Western Canada. By the time I saw it, poor old Abitibi 30 had been
'stuffed and mounted' on a concrete pad and was looking rather worse for wear." The award
program closed in 2002.

OneWorld Awardvergabe
|

This railway award was offered in gold, silver and bronze by this German site,
OneWorld. Only non-commercial web pages with railway content were eligible. The
award is listed on the main menu of the website and is translated in English.
Applications were sent by email and a maximum of nine awards would be given out each
month; one gold, three silver and five bronze. The last award was issued in 2000.

Railfan Freak Award
|

According to the webmaster, this award by Railfan USA was very short lived. He created several webpages and rules when
he realized that there were enough internet awards and to have another one would be redundant.
|
Railmaster's Best Site Award
|

This award by OhioRails certainly made its presence known. At 400 x 200 pixels it was one of the largest
awards presented. The award was personalized with the name and a small photo from the winning
site. The webmaster became busy, and having no success in finding a webmaster to take over the
award, had it discontinued in February 2002.
|
Super Loco Award
|

This award, offered by the Trollwise Crew, was quite popular at one time,
with about 50 winners. Winners on the list had stars beside them, probably some
sort of ranking system with 5 stars being the highest. The criterion stated,
"The main thing is that the site looks good." Judging was temporarily halted
around 1998 and never reopened. The site went offline in the summer of 2002.
|
Train Exchange Awards
|

Train Exchange was run by an aspiring young webmaster. It offered two awards, the
Highest Honor Award and the Train Exchange Golden Award. No criteria was given.
An applicant was simply asked to send pertinent information on the rail-related site for it to be
reviewed by the webmaster. The site was several years old. It became inactive in 2001 and
finally closed in February 2002.

Transit Toronto Link of the Month
|

The Transit Toronto site has practically everything you want to know about
the transit system of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It also has an extensive link page of
transit sites and used to offer a Link of the Month to websites which promoted electric
railroads. Link of the Month Sites were rated with stars with five being the highest.
The award was last offered in 2002.
